collected by Mihika Agrawal

“Lighting One Candle” by Yosa Buson

The light of a candle

Is transferred to another candle—

Spring twilight

“A World of Dew” by Kobayashi Issa

A world of dew,

And within every dewdrop

A world of struggle.

“The Old Pond” by Matsuo Bashō

An old silent pond

A frog jumps into the pond—

Splash! Silence again.

I write, erase, rewrite

Erase again, and then

A poppy blooms.

Forest, winds howl in rage

With no leaves to blow.

Seeing the Light

by Nikita Jain

Once we can see the light

We can proudly say with might

That once the time is right

We will be alright

 Despite the tough times

We will all grow together to take height

We will all grow together and take flight

And only then we can unite

A rainbow

Curving up, then down

Meeting blue sky and green earth

Melding sun and rain

  Nature

I close my eyes and

Try to imagine all the

Impossible things

I knew I was going to Mars one day. I just didn’t expect it to be so soon. My creators (humans) were fixing my programming. They were quite tiny compared to me. I was built just for this, to go to Mars and look for any microscopic life forms. My wheels carried me forward despite my nervousness. I boarded the shuttle that would carry me into space.

Stopping Covid-19

by Nikita Jain

When will New Beginnings arrive?

I despise when the coronavirus tries.

The coronavirus has taken people’s lives.

We can lead to its demise.

Soon we will rise.

Technology These Days

Since the all too familiar coronavirus swept through the world, people have been relying on technology more and more. Instead of going to school, we wake up every morning and log into Zoom classes. Talking to friends face to face is not very common. These days, people just text each other on hangouts. Instead of going on trips to the grocery store, almost everything is ordered through amazon. I barely even remember the last time I handed my homework in to my teacher. Now, with a click of a button, my homework is instantly sent to my teacher.
