For Decades Memorial Day was celebrated on the last day of May but in 1968, the Congress passed the Uniform Holiday Monday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May in order to create a three-day weekend for federal employees and the change went into effect in 1971. The same law also declared Memorial Day as a federal holiday. Parades are held across cities and towns often incorporating members of veterans’ organizations. Some of the largest parades are held in Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. Some people wear a red poppy in remembrance of those who had fallen in the war. ...continued Suez Canal Blockage

How the Ship Got Freed

Of course engineers were able to free the Ever Given but it took a lot of effort. The engineers first started to dig trenches under the ship. Engineers used special vacuums to create trenches under the Ever Given since it was filled with clay and rocks. Then they used powerful tugboats to haul the vessel on both sides to a different position in order to free the boat. Using the help of a high tide the ship straightened out, finally getting freed on March 29, 2021 which reopened the Suez Canal. Traders could now resume shipping goods.

In conclusion, the Suez Canal is one of the most busiest and important canals in the world so when the Ever Given caused the blockage it impacted countries all over the globe. Now since the problem is resolved the blockage is just an event to remember.

...continued Homelessness

What is the population of the homeless in the Bay Area?

The population of people living on the streets in the Bay Area is around 28,000, being the third most homeless populated place only behind Los Angeles and New York City. The top counties in the Bay Area with the most homeless people are San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Jose, Alameda, and Berkeley. The homeless population has increased 16.2% from 2007 to 2020 and 6.8% from 2019 to 2020.

How will the leaders reduce homelessness?

The Bay Area leaders’ plan to decrease homelessness is to invest in innovative housing solutions, policies, and research. Which means the leaders have decided to make more houses, which will stop people from being homeless. This might explain why there is a lot of construction lately. They will first give priority to residents with extremely low income to prevent the citizens with less money from becoming homeless. So far, around 100,000 residents are housed but leaders are working to make sure more than 100,000 citizens are housed by 2022.

Of course you can always help reduce homelessness by donating to NGOs (“A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a non-profit group that functions independently of any government”) such as Habitat for Humanity.

Homelessness is a major issue, especially in the Bay Area. If the leaders accomplish their goal then more people can enjoy their lives and focus on their bright future.
