Winter and Summer

By Simrah Mustafa

Colorful Seasons
Winters as blue as the sky,
Hot summers, yellow

Why I wrote this haiku:
I recently learned about haikus, a Japanese art. A haiku is a special poem that has 3 lines, with 5 syllables in the first line, 5 in the last, and 7 in the middle line. I find haikus very interesting and fun to write. This is my first haiku, and I was really excited! I wrote this haiku because we should admire how colorful the seasons are. Not all the seasons are cold, blue, and filled with snow. Not all the seasons are yellow, hot, and sunny. Seasons are different, and they each have various colors. We get to experience many different types of weather, and enjoy it every year.

Behind the Scenes:
Online School

by Simrah Mustafa

Really unsure about this “online school”

We started with only hour-long meetings,

I could secretly turn off my video to continue eating,

Later, we go into whole day, everyday of the week meetings,

Mom starts to give meals during tests,

Usually it would be vegetables, and she would tell us it will help, but we stay unimpressed.

Next up, we have loads of background noise.

Middle School
 by Shruti Suresh

School is over, and Summer is here!

I’m looking forward to Middle School next year.

Lockers and snack bars and schedules galore!

And field trips better than ever before!

What you learn is in your hands.

Electives are what I’m talking about, man!

The drama club may be something I will choose.
The auditions are something I hope not to lose!

End of the Year poem

School will soon be done.

COVID’s done and fun will come!

At least, I hope so.
