The Waterlily Pond: "Green Harmony"

During Claude Monet’s last thirty years of his life, he devoted himself to painting landscapes of his Water lily pond he bought. In total, he painted 18 photos of his pond, with the wooden japanese footbridge over it. It can be in many version, either big or small, but mostly it is 89.5x100. It weighs 1 pound, which is not a lot, unlike other paintings. You may want to ask why you have to add A “green harmony”, it is because the tones are mostly greenish, and also, different “harmony’s” means different tones of color. Monet was a keen gardener who cared for his plants and always bought new land to grow his plants. Intotal, he had painted 2,500 works, but it may be larger, as we know that he destroyed some of his own works and others had been lost over time. Monet used mostly oil paint, but he also used pastels and carried a sketchbook.

I like to sketch with a pencil. I chose to draw this peaceful landscape because I like drawing beautiful country views, not ones bursting with bright colors.

First I drew the horizon line at the top of the paper, which is the line below the mountains. Then I set vanishing points at the two ends of this line. These help create realistic results. I started the two farmhouses with vertical lines first then with the help of the vanishing points, I drew the other lines and roofs. After that, I carefully added the road, two trees, one bigger, one smaller. All these things are bigger when they are closer to you and smaller in the distance. When I sketched the trees, I gave the leaves three tones, dark, medium, and light. At last, I added the bushes and shading, as for the trees, the shadows.

This picture took me two days during the Easter weekend until I got a satisfactory result. I like this drawing because this little road is very real, the gates and the shadows are like a road I once walked on.

This is my first time drawing with the help of vanishing points, It took me a long time to learn online and practice.

Here is  one of my first digital pieces. It is called “Hope.” I made this candle in art class on paper and recreated it digitally. Then, I added the words and made lines around the candle. During these strange times, many people have been through unfortunate circumstances. A lot have lost their jobs, and have no more food, even a roof over their head! In situations like this, people may think they have lost everything, but they haven’t. They still have hope.

Hope gives you courage to move on and try again. People should never let go of hope because it is the only thing that they have left when they feel like they don’t have anything.

The main idea of my artwork is that even when you lose everything, you should still hold on to hope.
