It is about the adventures of Charlie and his parents, Grandpa Joe, Grandma Josephine, Grandma Georgina, Grandpa George, and Willy Wonka. The story begins when Willy Wonka tells Charlie that they should go high up in a Great Glass Elevator and then come down with a big crash! You do not know what happens next but I can tell you it is going to be unexpected so read on!

 

It all starts when the Bucket family is at Charlie's workshop. Willy Wonka proposes the idea of going up in a Great Glass Elevator thousands of feet and then crashing into the chocolate workshop. This idea sounds unbelievable and without thinking much Grandma Georgina, Grandma Josephine, Grandpa George, and Grandpa Joe all agree. These old people have been staying in the same bed for 20 years and haven't gotten out of it, but that ends today.

 

Next thing we know, the bed is carried into the elevator and they start their journey. When they are 100 feet up and wondering whether they are high enough Willy Wonka says that no, she goes all the way up into space. That is an exciting turn to this story. As the elevator heads towards space, people inside it start to float and need to hold on to things! They start using their breath to move around.  They see something that looks like a meteor crashing into them but then they see a sausage shaped thing. You guessed it right! Another crazy turn in this story where this sausage shaped place turns out to be the Space Hotel USA. As the people in the elevator approach the Space hotel, there is all kinds of drama that happens when they try to get into it. Once inside, the author does a great job of describing the hotel in space. There is dead silence and nobody speaks a single word until they see something slimy gooey and weird looking that is egg shaped. Now before you start thinking of aliens, let me tell you it is even scarier and crazier! Those slimy eggy shapes can turn into anything.

 

What happens next is the conclusion of this book involving a lot of mysterious events.
The creatures called Vermicious Knids start chasing after the Great Glass Elevator. They start to attack the elevator but as soon as the elevator gets closer to Earth all of the Knids start to explode and that's why you see shooting stars today according to the book. Along with many more such events, there is finally a long crash and the Great Glass Elevator makes a second hole in Charlie's Factory.
