Don't snooze!

We have school News!

by Simrah Mustafa

Even though we are in such uncertain times, this reporter wanted to see what Weibel has in store for the remaining school year! Ms. Lee answered some questions about online school. The FUSD and Weibel websites had additional school news! Read all about it below ↓↓↓

Online School

So first, was the big question: “When will online school end, or will we have some days of in-person schooling?” The answer is sadly, we won’t be having any in-person days, or in-person events, anytime soon. Especially due to the winter lockdown order, there have been no announcements for 2020-2021 school year to re-open yet. All meetings and events are to be held online.

Spirit Days

Next up (many of us are going to love this next question!), she was asked, “Will there be any virtual spirit days?” If you think that online school has basically ruined every single thing don’t worry! Ms. Lee said, “We will have another set coming soon.” Just because we are doing online school, that doesn’t mean we’ve lost the Weibel spirit! Of course we are going to have a spirit week! Hopefully, we will know about the upcoming spirit days very soon. Look for our announcements.

Mental Health Challenge

Remember the Caught-Being-Good slips we all loved getting? There is a similar virtual event called the Mental Health Challenge! A lot of us already know about The Challenge. It’s on Weibel’s website. If you would like to tryout, go to Ms. Lee’s newsletters to get the link. It’s a very fun challenge and it’s about good character traits! There's a link to a Google Form for each challenge. You usually have a video to watch, then respond on the Google Form about that character trait. Ms. Lee told this reporter that she picks one participating student from each grade for a raffle. They are called to pick up their prizes at the school’s office! It’s for grades K-5, so all Weibel students can participate!

Yearbook

A favorite part of the last week of school has always been the yearbook! We’d keep it for many years, and always go back and look at the good old memories. Even with Corona in the way, we can still have our good ol’ yearbook to keep all the memories, and best of all, the yearbook will represent history! P.S. There is hope that there will be a crossword puzzle or something like that, similar to last year’s yearbook’s Corona crossword puzzle.

Weibel Library!

I absolutely love books! Do you like them too? If you love books a lot, you might miss Fremont’s local libraries, which have closed down due to COVID-19 pandemic. However, don’t fear! Virtual libraries are here! Our school librarian, Ms. Hawks, was very kind, and gave us links to some free virtual libraries! Click this link to see the virtual library links she gave us: https://weibel.fremont.k12.ca.us/pf4/cms2/view_page?d=x&group_id=1540279723701&vdid=cin8c19a246du60o

Student Council!

by Simrah Mustafa

I know a lot of 4th and 5th graders wanted to run for Student Council this year and have been waiting for the answer to know whether or not they can. Sorry to break the news to you if you wanted to run, but Student Council this year is canceled because of distance learning. If in-person school re-opens, we will be able to resume Student Council!

Wildcats Keep Rocking

by Rohil Manwani

2020 has been a difficult year for all of us due to the pandemic. To show that we’re in this together, Weibel is encouraging the students to paint (decorate) rocks that show positive messages (kindness, caring, sharing, etc). Please have your child decorate/paint a rock and drop it off by our school marquee. The school will then work on creating a nice area around the marquee. Here are some examples of rocks that students made. Go Wildcats and continue painting/decorating more rocks.

Help our School Library

It is said that reading gives people a place to go when we have to stay where we are. This is very true for what’s happening during the current pandemic. We students are stuck at home and unable to meet our school friends in person. During this time of distance learning our librarian, Mrs. Hawks is working hard on updating and preparing our library for us to return.  More than half our library books are aged, and in need of replacing. Parents, please consider donating to our school library with the link below. Help us all broaden our minds and let our imaginations fly.

PTO News!

by Simrah Mustafa

Do you know what the Weibel PTO is? It stands for the Weibel Parent Teacher Organization. If you’re bummed out that there aren’t many fun competitions or events because of COVID-19, the Weibel PTO is about to save your life! They help plan out events like the winter celebration the 4th and 5th graders had on December 18. The PTO also has monthly events.

Mask-Making Competition

One of the last events hosted by the PTO was the Weibel Mask-Making Competition. If you’d like more information about the Weibel PTO, or would like to see their events, go to https://sites.google.com/weibelpto.org/home to see the PTO’s website!

PTO Events

Bummed about the Student Council and sports being cancelled and bored at home after school? Don’t fear, the Weibel PTO is here! According to Ms. Lee, “Our PTO group has created many activities to do outside of school work. Parents are encouraged to sign up their child(ren).” These extracurricular activities will be a great way to get involved even from your home!

I think we all need a break from school. We look at screens for many hours, and we have to learn, study, take quizzes/tests, and more! The worst part about it is that there are no fun activities! Good news is that the Weibel PTO will be planning more BomBayJam Kid classes, arts and crafts nights (which I can’t wait for!), and last but not least, more monthly social events!

Family Reading Night

Are you a bookworm? And do you absolutely love reading with your family? Well, remember how I told you how the PTO plans various events? Hopefully, they’ll host a family reading night this year around January/February!
