A drawing with toucans called the “Fire Beaked Toucans.” It’s called that because I think that the beaks look like fire! I like a lot of animals & I’d say that toucans are one of my favorite animals. This drawing was made using crayons & using a shading technique that I learned. I like this technique because there are so many options to draw using this technique and you can almost turn anything into a drawing this way. This was also fun to draw because the process of drawing this was quite funny.

"The Cherry Dip"

This is a picture that I drew and I called it “The Fierce Cheetah”. I called it this because the cheetah is a predator and it is not afraid to catch its prey! This picture is definitely one of my favorite art pieces I have ever made because I enjoyed the process of creating it and how it turned out in the end! The technique I used for this was oil pastel shading. I first sketched the cheetah and then colored it with a white oil pastel. After that, I used peach and brown oil pastels ...Read More

"Leaping into 2021"

I have been an art student

for four years. A few weeks

ago my teacher introduced

me to Wayne Thiebaud’s

artwork. Since then I have

been interested in his art.

I like that he has chosen a

unique topic like food that

not a lot of artists chose to

draw. I started to discover a

lot of his work and since

food drawings were his

specialty, I was inspired

and I drew a donut

painting. What I like about

Thiebaud’s art is that he

puts so many details, colors,

and effort into his work.

Leonardo Da Vinci

by Kashvi Lath

Have you ever heard of the Mona Lisa painting? Do you know who painted it? Well it was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci was born in Vinci, Italy on April 15, 1452.  He was one of the greatest artists of all time. On August 16, 1467, Leonardo da Vinci was sent away to study art. One day he out-painted his art teacher which showed how great of an artist he would become,  From that point on he became one of the greatest artists of all time. He died on May 2, 1519. On May 2, 2019, Italy held a 500th year anniversary celebration of his death to honour him and his amazing accomplishments.

Mona Lisa

by Leonardo da Vinci

Many people also noticed & thought that this painting doesn’t have any eyebrows or eyelashes. In October 2007, a french engineer and inventor, Pascal Cotte discovered using a high-definition camera that on the painting da Vinci actually did paint eyebrows and eyelashes. The exact date when this was painted is unknown but it was painted in between years 1503 and 1509. This painting is a great example of ancient art history.

This painting is definitely one of the best paintings the world has seen. What do you think of this painting?

The inspiration of this painting was

da Vinci’s wife. The reason this painting is called the Mona Lisa is because it can mean lady, madame, or even ma’am. That became Madonna & the name Mona is a short form of Madonna. Did you know that in Paris there is a famous museum called the Louvre in which the actual canvas on which da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa on is there?

Well this painting is just as amazing as it may seem. I know this because when I went to Paris in 2017, I visited the Louvre museum and got to see the actual painting. I thought that is was so cool but at the same time scary that every time I moved somewhere, she continued to stare at me. If you ever want to see the actual painting, you should visit the Louvre museum which is in Paris.

A Slice of Life

There are many famous artists in the world that you

would have heard about like Picasso, Van Gogh, or

Leonardo Da Vinci. These artists drew everything from

people to nature. But did you know that there are famous

artists who specialize in drawing FOOD? One of those

famous artists is Wayne Thiebaud.

Early Life and Career

Wayne Thiebaud was born on November 15, 1920 in Mesa, Arizona. Thiebaud grew up in a Mormon home in California. When he was only six months old, his family moved to Los Angeles, where he spent much of his early life in Long Beach, California. He studied commercial art at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and at Frank Wiggins Trade School.

Thiebaud started his career in Los Angeles and worked as a summer apprentice in the animation department at Walt Disney studios from 1939 to 1949. During this time he worked as a cartoonist, a sign painter, and an illustrator.

Famous Work

Thiebaud’s most famous works are of cakes, pastries, boots, toilets, toys and lipsticks. He is associated with the pop art movement because of his interest in objects of mass culture. His painting technique is to use some thick strokes in some places of the painting and thinner strokes in the other areas. His technique is to add texture and make the painting uneven. This creates visual interest and more density in the object he is painting. This is what makes his art more realistic and three dimensional.

Last year in Nov 2020 was Theibaud’s 100th birthday! Let’s celebrate his centenary year by learning more about his art and sharing it with friends and family.
