...continued Mulan: Movie Review

Xianniang replaced MuShu, the little dragon sidekick that Mulan had in the animated version. MuShu wanted to prove that he belonged with the wise ancestors of the past, but instead he made silly mistakes. This is a classic Disney story plot where the main character and the sidekick help each other reach their goals and make it to the happy ending. This teaches kids teamwork in a fun and indirect way.

In addition, I think the 1998 Mulan is more humorous, and since it’s a Disney classic, it is also a musical. The songs are the cherries on top that give a kind of loose, casual feel to the movie. I like that because I don’t like movies to be too serious. The animated one was clearly more meant for kids, and I am also probably biased because I watched the animated movie first.

So, in conclusion, both of the Mulan movies are very empowering with amazing overall stories, but they both also have minor differences. I can’t really choose which one is better; it depends on your perspective. If you like action-packed movies with exciting plots and realistic battles, then the 2020 Mulan movie is the better option for you. If you like Disney-style (dramatic) movies that are funny but also have good morals, then the 1998 Mulan is the best option for you! I hope this article helped you decide what to watch with your family for this week's movie night! Enjoy!
